Was there something our staff missed?
Yes. Evidently they missed the “stats” tab on ESPN.com that showed that Coastal has the worst pass defense in the Sun Belt and game planning to exploit that.
Bingo!!
Did they also miss the blocks that gave Brice virtually no time to throw?
I will never understand why you’re so fast to defend your buddies on the coaching staff that are paid handsomely to win football games
So saying players missed blocks causing Brice to not have time to do a whole lot means I'm defending my buddies? My bad, I guess we watched different games. Apparently they didn't miss any blocks and Chase had all the time in the world.

Also, none of this coaching staff are my buddies. One is a former coach of mine, but not buddies.

And, I've already called out what I think is the reason for the down year on the offensive line. And guess what -- it was calling out my supposed buddy. Guess you didn't read that?

Bottom line -- our offense is predicated on having stellar offensive line play. We don't have that. The game plan was clearly to pass the ball. We only ran 27 times -- 9 of those were by Brice -- majority of those on scrambles. So let's say 20 total designed runs. That's WELL below our average. So you say the staff missed how bad Coastal's pass defense is yet when the facts show otherwise, it's because I'm defending buddies.

It's not my fault you can't see the facts.

We have a problem with the offensive line play for sure. Some would say size but they are about what we have always had I believe. Strength and conditioning? Well that is what I believe is a good part of it but not 100% of the problem. I think another factor is we have a line made for a mobile QB and don't have a mobile QB. Not the lines fault and not any fault of the QB. I know same as last year, but I still feel this way. There will be some changes in assistants at the end of the season I am sure but I really believe we need to get our line capabilities in sink with our QB capabilities.

Next year we will have a mobile QB, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

To me, it's pathetic that we have a couple on here who were happy we lost so they could continue their crusade against stupid coaches and players who don't have any heart -
Nobody is happy we lost. Give it up
It’s a fine line you and a couple others are walking between being upset we lost and being able to proclaim I told you so regarding your position about the coaching staff. There is a ridiculous amount of chest thumping after this loss. Many on here see the deficiencies, but the pointless App is in the garbage, the coaches suck, the players have no heart posts border on perverse glee. While I was incredible disappointed last night, I wasn’t breaking my neck to proclaim how bad App was. I see the weaknesses and talking about them is completely understandable. But those aren’t the posts by and large. It’s the ignorant mob mentality that’s ruling the day. It’s a lot easier to just say fire everyone we suck when you don’t actually know anything about football.
Well said.

How would you describe an OL made for a mobile QB?

Next season we will have a mobile QB, maybe that's the plan, so to speak.

Lighter and quicker but strong. Not the big heavies necessary to keep the QB in the pocket.

Personally, I think it is also passing concepts. If a team is going to bring pressure beyond the DL,..like a LB or DB, you have to have a release valve.. sometimes a 4 or or 5 yard pickup is golden. I have not reviewed all of our pass plays to see if we have it in the plays, whether QB1 does not go to that option, or if that option is not getting open...it just seems many of our pass plays take a while to develop. Inherently, that requires OL to maintain pass protection longer. With that said, Thursday night there were opposing team players in our backfield so quickly...it may not have mattered.

Brian Quick...err....Dalton Stroman is OPEN

This kid is good and going to be so good.
One reason I think our coaching has to get better is that a player like Stroman should get the ball 7-10 times a game, not 2. I also think Robinson, Wells, Horn, and Davis need to get more touches. We should have thrown the ball more because these guys can eat if you let them.
Problem with Stroman is he's still learning how to block. He's really only going in on pure pass plays because his blocking is subpar. But, he's also staying after practice every day to get better at it. He is going to be really good.

There's a reason Clark said he has a chance to be the best player to ever wear black and gold.
I agree

Coach him over and over and over again
And pass to him Over and Over and Over AGAIN AGAIN !!!!

If Chase was more mobile who do we beat over the last 2 seasons that we lost to?

Flip side, if Chase is not our QB, who would we have lost to? Many of them...

Exactly. Can't believe the number of expert fans who always think a QB change magically fixes every issue. Do we want a runner who is only ok passing the ball? There aren't but so many dynamic dual threat guys out there

Agree. In time, Burger may be very good. However, he is not better than our QB1 this year

It was less than 2 minutes long. Clark was visibly pissed, said some questioned going for it on 4th down and wouldn't have changed the decision. I would bet he would make a different play call on both 3rd and 4th down had he the chance for a do over though

I've read a few responses tonight. We have had better and higher recruiting classes the last 4 straight years. Either we dont know how to use them, we aren't playing our best players, or our coaches aren't calling the right plays, or putting them in position to succeed. We also don't seem to be getting the ball to our play makers. We never throw to the TEs down the seam anymore, or to the backs in the flat or on wheel routes. Get the ball to Stroman more and more.

Ive seen the comments about the line, but if time to throw is an issue, then if there was a back in the flat to check to might be an idea. All of our offensive passes take to long to develope, thus no time to throw. We have 4 good TEs that we hardly ever use. Only the short flat routes. My issue is with the coaching. We get retreads as coordinators, and Jones was demoted by Sat.

If we don't start paying more for asst and head coaches, we will continue to loose the good ones to higher paying jobs. But, we may not have many good ones now.
Downfalls of any program is loosing assts. The only one that doesn't is AL.

Also, maybe it's not the DB coaches fault at Coastal, but that 3rd and 10 play Sat night they scored on was awful. Got behind both corner and safety, pitiful! Also, no blitzes. Need changes to personel, be it players or coaching quick or we continue to regress! Every game we've lost this year other than UNC, we got outcoached in every loss.

Two of Chase's 5 INT's were quick hits to the seam route and the LB dropped quickly and made the pick. It could be because teams are loading the box, that play isn't open (or we are gun shy to call it).
The third play of the game was a wheel route to Noel, but he was covered and broke the route off. Had he continued to run, it may have worked.
Also, in the second half, we were using Noel almost exclusively. He was either staying in to block or running 5 yard patterns for the dump off.

Chadwell coached a good game on Thursday, but he was also rolling the dice. He threw two passes, including the deep route on the final drive. One was incomplete, saving us a time out. If the second was dropped, he's being questioned instead of cheered. Their secondary was torched more than our secondary. He was also stopped on 4th down and that could have critical. He was smart to slow the game down and limit us to 4 second half possessions. That's coaching. Their offensive game plan/complexity of offense was the biggest difference between the two staffs.

Any throw against our secondary is not exactly rolling the dice.
