Yellow/white/white is my least favorite combination, and the helmet stripes are bad luck. App loses by 14 or more.
I may be one of the most superstitious people on the planet but helmet stripes have nothing to do with good or bad MOJO. I guess I'm old school as well, kind of like the stripes

UNC- L with a great offensive performance- no helmet stripes
Texas A&M- W- no helmet stripes
Troy- W on a hail mary- helmet stripes
JMU- L- helmet stripes
Citadel- W- no helmet stripes
Texas State- L- helmet stripes
Georgia State- W- helmet stripes
Robert Morris- W- no helmet stripes
Coastal Carolina- L- helmet stripes

As you can see, our most "complete" team performances have come when we do not wear helmet stripes.
So 2-3 with stripes and 3-1(including games against Robert Morris and Citadel)without. Not really a convincing difference. Maybe I'm just not superstitious enough.

Winning record without stripes, losing record with stripes. Am I cherry picking a little bit to back up my own distaste for helmet stripes? Maybe. But I think this still warrants further investigation. Plus, it has to be cheaper to wear a helmet without stripes, right?

*gasp* Maybe Clark is choosing to wear helmet stripes more often in order to spend more football budget so that it's harder for the school to afford his buyout, should they choose to fire him!!! THIS THING GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP!

This question really deserves its own thread but maybe not. I'm sure this question has been answered or debated in some fashion but perhaps not. If you guys honestly roll back to pre UNC what are legit predictions of where you thought this team would be prior to playing tomorrow?

UNC- win (really expected a home victory but not a shootout)

A&M- probably a 20 point loss

Game Day- not in Boone

Troy- close win due to some injuries after the first 2 games

JMU- easy win probably by 17

Citadel, Texas St, Ga State, RMU- 4 blowout wins

CCU- toss up

I had us 8-4 before the season started. Losing to both UNC and TAMU, then losing a pair between (CCU, Marsha and Stink). Believe me, I drank the kool-aid after A&M and thought we had a tight grip on at least 10+ wins again. Disappointed..yes but it will ease the off-season woes if we win out and grab a bowl victory. Who knows at this point…

Yep preseason I looked at our first 4 games and said “I’d be fine with 2-2 but could see 3-1 or 1-3”. But I never would have guessed our 2 wins would be TAMU/Troy and losses JMU/UNC.

But I did expect us to be 6-2 going into the Costal game with that kinda being the bellweather game for our chances at a title.

Guess I should have finished it out.

Honestly had to go loss at Coastal with McCall too much to contain. We would have been 7-2 with 3 to play and still a shot at the division. Figured ODU would really not be good- win, stinker at Marshall and a disappointing loss. We would play balanced at Stink and squeak it out to go 9-3. I doubt anyone would have figured a meltdown against JMU and a total no-show in Texas.

Thought I'd try to clear up a bit of unfortunate misinformation that originated with Coach Clark at the last Monday's presser. He began his remarks by stating that today's game would be the 75th anniversary of the MU team plane crash. He didn't have his facts straight--which to me is evidence that he's really struggling with his team's poor play. I'm absolutely certain that he didn't put that info out with any malicious intent. He is, after all, a WV native and he has deep respect for Marshall. I think he's simply up to his ears in alligators... Hope he gets some of that off his back this afternoon with a desperately needed win over the Herd. It won't be easy!

So here's the deal on the MU chartered plane disaster and why it's so important to Herd fans today and this weekend. On Nov. 14, 1970, the Herd (3-6) was returning home following a disappointing 17-14 loss to ECU (2-7). The Pirates broke a 17-17 tie with a late FG to seal just their second win of the season.

About three hours after the game's end, while on approach to the Huntington-Tri-State Airport in Kenova, WV, the team's plane clipped the tree-tops of a forested hillside and crashed with 75 players, coaches, support staff, VIP fans and flight crew aboard. There were no survivors.

Monday Nov. 14, 2022 will mark the 52nd anniversary of the crash. ECU was originally scheduled as the Herd's opponent for this week's game--but the realignment of the Sun Belt forced a change and MU requested that App be approved to fill the date. Today's game will be played two days before the actual anniversary date.

Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend as Marshall observes the 52nd anniversary of what the State of WV and the NCAA consider to be "the worst sports-related air tragedy in U.S. history."

I expect today's game to be highly emotional and hard-fought for all involved. May good sportsmanship rule the day.

Perspective is heathy when assessing the season. 8-4 was my prediction preseason.

Better than expectation - all but beating CH and beating A&M far exceeding

Worse - blowing a 28-3 lead vs JM and equaling as dispointing as A&M was good was getting punched in the mouth by Texas St. That’s the first time I saw an App State FBS team lay down (letting them push 17 down should never happen)

We can still go 8-4 but the conference record will be at least one game below expectations.

We have never finished .500 in the SBC should we drop one more…

Good summary. Wasn't this supposed to be the remembrance for the 50th anniversary since the 50th was impacted by COVID.? I thought that I read that somewhere.

Does anyone know their record over the last 52 years on this date? Wondering how much of a bump they get in performance with commemorating the tragedy

I knew Coach was off a bit when he said that about the MU tragedy. I was a freshman at App at the time and I knew I wasn't quite that old yet.

The school where my daughter is the Head Coach of the women's soccer team has a connection to that day. At the time, Ferrum College, now a D3 program, was a JUCO and had 8 former players/coaches at Marshall. To this day, each year they award a player the Big Green Award. There is a plaque at Marshall honoring those "Ferrum 8."

I'll take him getting clock management and game plan right over the date of a trajedy.... It's sad but not a priority for the day. Maybe he's focused and ready to go. I sure hope so. I wish him well.
