I consider JMU to be there with GaSo and Marshall. I would just as soon see the world burn than see either be a leg up on App. That is a rivalry at its heart. I am willing to sink if that means my rival sinks as well.
I'm guessing in 10 years max this won't be an issue. JMU will move on to a bigger conference. They have more resources and support than the rest of the sun belt schools do. If the American gets raided again, I think JMU is one of their targets.
I do not know where the “JMU has more resources” story line started, but it’s not true. They have significantly higher student fees that provide the vast majority of their funding. That is where they outdistance us, but we are further ahead in true “fan support”. We sell more tickets and raise more money, they don’t have the “fan support” resources that we have. That being said, I don’t know why the narrative keeps getting repeated, it’s not true.
JMU’s NIL budget for football is just under $5M. Our budget is around $1.3M. So yeah, JMU has vastly more resources.
Where did you get that information from, that JMU has $5 Million NIL budget for football? I haven't been able to locate single source that states that with any certainty. I find it odd that a school that can't sell as many tickets or raise as much money can somehow dwarf our NIL. Where does the money come from? More importantly, who is reporting these numbers and are they accurate? Please share those links because I have looked and can't find anything that states numbers.
I’m skeptical about the numbers, too. Too much of an incentive to fudge the numbers. That said, I’m told there is a database only available to the universities that details NIL money. My source is someone who has access to that database. For what it’s worth, I’m told our NIL pool for football will more than double in 2026 to just under $3M.

I hope we are never using JMU as an incentive for a recruiting tool... Referencing to them to take them down is effectively stating to a recruit that they are better than us... I hope we never say that out loud to a recruit...
To be fair, the Sun Belt teams used to say that about us.
I would think I would would not acknowledge that when recruiting a player. Makes your own school look inferior. Why would I ever attend a school with that recruiting mentality...only exception is if I did not get an offer from App. St. and wanted a scholly from App..St.
If that is our or any schools recruiting strategy, should go ahead and pack up shop.and be done..

JMU in the college football playoffs and App as well as the rest of the Sun Belt can use it as a recruiting tool. We need you to come to App to take down JMU.
Ummm, No!

If Tulane finishes strong, they’ll get the nod for the CFP. If not, Sumrall will get a head start on signing a fat P5 contract and house hunting in a new town.

I’m working through the post-feast coma and thinking about bowl games. For some reason, the words “Dirty Myrtle” keep popping into my head…

I’m very skeptical of a $6M NIL number from JMU based upon total donations for 2024, source above.

This would be my preferred destination. I won’t be able to travel farther than Myrtle personally, and I don’t want to “waste” a new bowl experience on this season.

If they are fortunate to go bowling, I hope it is to a destination a majority of the players want to go.

Obviously not a thing matters if we don’t win, but if you were worried about a scenario where we win tomorrow and get left out due to there being too many bowl eligible teams, all three 5-6 teams who have played today (Kansas, Mississippi State, and Buffalo) lost.

Looks increasingly likely that we would get a 13th game in the event that we win.

As others have said, you wouldn’t find me complaining even a little bit whatever our destination is if we win tomorrow. I feel like at 6-6 beggars can’t be choosers lol.

We draw well enough that if 6-6 we’ll get picked ahead of other G6 6-6 teams.

I’ve also had this thought. I never pretend to understand how bowl selection process works but like you would think the Myrtle Beach Bowl would be itching to extend an invite to App if given the opportunity lol

For these lower bowls it’s about tickets sold and name recognition for TV viewership. We’ve done well in both historically compared to other G6s.
