Bear Bryant

This has nothing in particular about ASU football, but I thought this quote from a T-shirt worn by a young lady at a swim meet recently says a lot toward athletes in any sport today.

It's not the will to win that matters. Everyone has that. It's the will to prepare that matters.

It is also the key to life. Home, business, school, everything we do is a result of how we prepare.
thanks for sharing that.

I'm a big Bear fan and love this quote. Swimmers have some pretty cool sayings.

- When the going gets tough, the sprinters get out. (Distance swimmer's motto)
- The race is in the water; he can't beat you with his press clippings.
- He's only got two arms and two legs ... same as you. (often quoted by a coach of mine who only had one arm - lost the other in a skydiving accident)
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

My favorite is this one:

Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.

I don't know anything about that but I liked when the fans held up signs with either Go Forest or Stop on them.

Clemson's Frank Howard about retirement-- I'm retiring for health reasons-- The alumni are sick of me.

True story, a cohort came up to me last year during our losing streak. He asked me if I knew that Bear Bryant was buried in Boone. I, of course, looked at him with a puzzled look. He told me that Bear Bryant was buried in Boone. I told him he was full of it. He said it was in his will. When he died, he wanted to be buried as far away from football as possible.

I got a good chuckle out of that one.

My favorite of all time was when John McKay was asked about his offenses execution and he replied , "I'm all for it."
