I think it goes back to the fundamental problem that is the transfer portal. There is no more loyalty or commitment in college football. Everyone knows if things go bad, they can always transfer somewhere else next year. How many of our players (or coaches) even care about the rivalry with GSU? It's pay for play and it's here to stay.
Here’s the Devil’s advocate response to that. NIL and the Transfer Portal exist in Conway and Statesboro. Both of those teams treated the respective games as a rivalry, played chippy and one tried to plant a flag at midfield.

The GaSo fans are not happy with Clay Helton, yet he can get his team off the bus ready to play and fired up.

Just because you are getting paid (and I don’t believe they all are getting paid) doesn’t mean you can’t be passionate about your job

National TV/packed stadium and the sideline wasn’t energized. Watch the other G5 mid week games. Coming off a break, coaching staff should have had the team ready to run through a wall and had some wrinkles in the game plan.
I think you're seeing the difference between an NFL business like mindset and the more emotional/energetic college mindset.
Is that good?
It didn't on Thursday!

GS and CC both played emotional and they beat us. I understand playing under control but guys have to want it to win. It’s not a business transaction, another guy is literally trying to run you over and make you not want to see him coming at you again.
Energy and sideline reactions are often overplayed in importance. We’ve had players jumping around on our opponents sideline for years and it amounted to nothing. Recruiting, Development, Strength training, Execution and Gameplanning are far more important to winning.

I’m not so much talking about the guys on the sidelines. I’m talking about intensity on the field. I agree with everything else you’re pointing out, especially the strength training, but if 2 good athletes are facing each other the difference many times is simply who wants it the most. I’m not talking about who has the best TD or sack dance. Wanting to win is an emotional mind set. Refusing to quit is an emotional mind set. Being the best requires players to have certain emotions during practice and games. Football is a gladiator sport, not a business transaction.

In today’s new NIL world, the one area where we stand out is an incredible student crowd and solid alumni crowd that fills more seats (and a hillside) then they leave empty.
Players should love playing in that atmosphere (vs. at GaSt or ODU or Charlotte or even Marshall)
Perhaps the “business approach” should be saved for the road.

I don't believe that it is. There are a number of things that go into winning on the college level. An emotional/ energetic college mindset is one of them.

Our home atmosphere certainly fires up visiting teams.

I think the emotional mindset is different from a fan perspective versus players perspective. Yes, fans should be loud, feel the extra emotion or chill in the area so to speak.

Players jumping up and down on sidelines doesn't really mean anything to me as it is probably backups doing most of the jumping.
Personally, I try to look at reactions to great plays, great hits, great catches, etc. and team reactions. It seems the team is together. I see congrats and celebrations on big plays.

With that said, it appears that the new staff is setting a new standard and expectations. Whether those standards and expectations are correct, time will tell. During transitions like this, the old guard of players may have issues with this.. and couple this with potentially other players friends being asked to leave the team....may have short term impacts in the locker room.

We talk about 50 new players coming into the fold. Those players came in out of necessity. AND after many players had made decisions to go to other teams given how late a coach was named.

It will be interesting to see how DLo and team performs with an entire recruiting cycle.

I agree with this. He will now have a full cycle so I think we need to see how the team looks next year to judge it better.
