I’m sorry but I will not do this. I’ll continue to be a season ticket holder and donate to YC. But, I can’t get past the fact that this whole conversation treats a FREE 4 year education, access to trainers, nutritionists, housing, food and stipends like they are an entitlement. If it means we lose the best so be it. But if it happens to us it will happen to everyone else in the Sun Belt so field leveling is inevitable. This money is not raised by grassroots efforts. Deep pockets are pouring money in.
Sorry, but I am going to call you out - this is an outdated loser mentality. "if it means we lose the best so be it." People on this board with that same mentality will be griping when we do lose the best and when we lose games because of it.
Giving
anything to the collective does make a difference at
our school because
we don't have many deep pockets. We have always done more with less and this collective doesn't change that, but it gives us a fighting chance to be competitive for championships so we can continue to develop, retain and attract the best players possible. This is a pivotal day for our programs. We are no longer taking a knife into a gunfight. We may always be up against a higher caliber gun until NIL is reformed for the better, but until then this is the way to provide our programs with a gun and ammo to shoot.
I'm so freakin' tired of seeing the word "loser" used towards people for having a different opinion or perspective. Are you not capable of forming a convincing argument without resorting to small minded bully tactics? This is such a bullshit sense of false superiority.
Lol this is funny to read as well. Small minded bully tactics? False superiority? Seriously? Leave it to this cesspool.
I said loser mentality. Because you know what will happen when we can’t retain players or attract players due to NIL? We will lose. We will lose to someone of the G5 level with that infrastructure and we will lose the opportunity of competing in the playoff. What will happen when we lose? People, like you, will be complaining that we are losing. Championships are the goal here correct? I thought they were at least.
I don't think it's about individuals giving to a collective.
We already come up short with our Yosef Club Membership. If you put it on the backs of individuals, it's not going to become the type of program that you are suggesting.
I think it's about hiring a super-salesperson who can market what we have on the Mountain to businesses off the mountain. The NIL corporate memberships/game sponsorships need to span from Charlotte to Winston-Salem to Hickory to Asheville, etc. There needs to a a 90's NASCAR type relationship between these corporate sponsors and our fanbase. Everyone wanted to sponsor NASCAR in that era because the fan loyalty was unlike any other fanbase. Fans bought Tide, shopped at Lowe's and used Valvoline and bought Die Hard or Exide or Interstate Batteries because they supported the sport the fans loved.
In a small town market, there needs to be a big vision to accomplish this.
The other option is to zig when the others are zagging. Recruit players that want to be a part of a program that is different, is aligned tighter and is focused on the field vs. at the teller. This is where you need a coach like Shawn Clark to work out and be a long term solution. Recruit players who want to be there and welcome those that were spurned by the big $$$ P5 machine. That doesn't mean that you'll never have misses or lose a few players here and there. It just means that you extend and accentuate the success, culture and positives of the program. We keep the chip on our shoulders and keep the underdog mentality.
And it could be a combination of both.
